I did use a vehicle wash brush to help on the very black areas as you suspected i would because of the age of my shingles. Here is the funny part i was in so much of a hurry about how this correct way worked i went and got store brand bleach probably 3 4 and used it and it got it cleaner than the qse. I have used their product up here in the pacific northwest and have been very happy with their roof asphalt mix and their cedar mix the best thing is you can literally spray it directly on any landscaping and it does no harm at all.
